Syn?rift sediment gravity flow deposition on a Late Jurassic fault?terraced slope, northern North Sea

چکیده
Structurally controlled bathymetry in rifts has a significant influence on sediment routing pathways and depositional architecture of gravity flow deposits. In contrast to rift segments characterized by crustal-scale half-grabens, the tectono-stratigraphic evolution deep-water domains characterised distributed faulting narrow fault terraces received little attention. We use 3D broadband seismic data, calibrated boreholes, from Lomre Uer northern North Sea investigate Late Jurassic syn-rift systems fault-terraced slopes. The fairways were sourced hinterland drainages via basin margin deltaic Horda Platform southeast. sedimentary evolve initial, widespread submarine channelized lobe complexes, through channels, incised canyons. This progressive confinement system was concomitant with localization strain onto main terrace-bounding faults. Although normal network local impact transport deposits, it is regional axis gradient that dominantly controls routing. Furthermore, deposits predominantly systems, not erosion uplifted footwall crests, emphasising significance catchments development volumetrically systems.

Experiments on sediment deposition by overland flow
Experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of sediment concentration, slope and discharge on sediment deposition rates and patterns associated with a reduction in bed slope. Analysis of the data shows that up to a certain unit discharge a simple settling equation without a transport term gives a good prediction of the sediment delivery ratio and the grain-size distribution of the depo...

Laboratory experiments are performed to examine gravity currents propagating into an ambient of uniformly decreasing depth. Predominantly, the study is of a surface gravity current shoaling over a bottom slope as it approaches a corner between the horizontal surface and the sloping topography. For sufficiently high Reynolds number currents, they are found to propagate at a constant speed over t...

A sediment core, collected from the western part of the continental slope of the Ross Sea at 2380 m water depth, records Ž . 230 events of the last two climatic cycles 250 kyr . A Th -based chronology was obtained and boundaries of the isotope ex stages were set assuming that biological productivity was enhanced during periods of less ice cover. Then, Th0 , organic ex carbon, biogenic silica an...
